Tom Welle, CAS
Residential Counselor
Born and raised in Minnesota, Tom always had a dream of moving out west to pursue the mountain lifestyle while advancing his career. The struggles with substance use disorder were evident in the local community. Tom decided to pursue his certification as an addiction counselor to better serve his clients and to deepen his understanding of the disease of addiction. He transitioned to working for Providence Recovery Services where he gained robust experience working in a continuum of care and within a multi-disciplinary team. Tom is now working for Foundry Treatment Center - Steamboat Springs where he continues to develop his proficiency with Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Existential Psychotherapy. Ali Givnish
Horticultural Facilitator
Ali started out a reluctant gardener, helping her mom out of daughterly duty. Her love for all things green grew as she moved into the plant nerd industry, working in greenhouses in Boulder as she attended University of Colorado, and later doing seasonal landscaping in Steamboat. After running the nursery for Gecko Landscape and Design for three years, Ali began gardening. She is honored and excited to be helping create a four-season garden and greenhouse as part of Foundry’s commitment to wellness and community. When she’s not working in the dirt, Ali likes to ski and ride her bike, float rivers, write blurbs and blogs, and cozy up to read books with her little family.
Kim Brooks, CHT
Horticultural Therapist
Kim is a certified Permaculture Design Consultant and has been gardening in the Yampa Valley since 2000. She helps individuals, businesses, organizations, and schools design and build high altitude edible food gardens. She is also passionate about building community by involving all people in our food system, from educating little sprouts where food comes from to providing our food bank with local, healthy produce. She believes gardening is excellent therapy, both physically and mentally. As Masanobu Fukuoka says in The One-Straw Revolution,” The ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings.” Although, good food does often lead to happiness! And good ingredients, like fresh locally grown produce, are the first step toward delicious, healthy and healing food.
As friends, family and a staff, we are committed to supporting your decision to better life!
